Council - Council members are responsible for passing any new by-laws. They also deal with anything brought up by the public about the Municipality of Powassan. Meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Council Chambers, at 466 Main Street, Powassan.
The following are Standing Committees of Council that meeting monthly to assist Council with the municipality's decision making. The committees are made up of Council members and members at large. For more information or to view the minutes of the Committees please contact the office.
Recreation -The Municipality of Powassan is committed to ensuring a variety of recreation, leisure and open space opportunities, which will preserve and enhance the quality of life. The Recreation committee is responsible for looking after the recreation programs for all ages and the special events, with the assistance of many volunteers. Committee meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 pm in the Council Chambers, at 466 Main Street, Powassan. For more information on Recreation Please visit the Recreation Pages on the website.
Public Works -In in efforts to improve operations the Municipality, effective January 2005, has combined the Public Works and Protection to Persons and Property Committees. The Public Works Committee is responsible for the roads, bridges, street lighting, landfill, water and sewer, cemeteries, animal control, building control, by-law enforcement and fire services. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month at the Council Chambers, at 466 Main Street, Powassan.
Trout Creek Community Centre -The Trout Creek Community Centre is located at 181 Main Street W in Trout Creek. The Community Centre has a rental hall with a capacity of 350 people. For further information on the hall please contact the municipal office at 724-2813. There is also an indoor ice surface that is availible for the community to rent. For more information on available ice times please call Dale Jardine, Manager at 723-5372. The Trout Creek Community Centre Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 188 Main Street West, Trout Creek.
Emergency Managment Program Committee - The Emergency Management Program Committee is responsible for ensuring the community is in compliance with the Emergency Management Act of Ontario. Meetings are held the third Thursday of every third month at the Council Chambers, at 466 Main Street Powassan.
Powassan & District Union Library Board -The Powassan and District Union Library Board is responsible for the operations and functions of the library. Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at 4 Clark Street, Powassan.
Eastholme Board -The Eastholme Board is a board of management that is responsible got the operations of Eastholme. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at Eastholme.
Accessibility Advisory Committee -Accessibility Plan- The Municipality of Powassan assembled an Accessibility Advisory Committee in response to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001. This Committee consists of a member of Council and members of the community. The Committee prepares an annual Accessibility Plan and meets to discuss all areas of concern brought forward by the public or that has been identified within the committee. All manner of accessibility are discussed including visual, hearing, and physical barriers. Meetings are held first Monday of every month, or as required at the Municipal Office.
Powassan Police Services Board - The Powassan Police Services Board is responsible for discussing any policing issues within the Municipality. Meetings are held the third Monday of each quarter at 6:00 pm.
MoPED ( Municipality of Powassan Economic Developement Committee) - It shall be the mission of this committee to proactively promote sustainable economic development while preserving our quality of life and our environment. It will continue to provide services and opportunities utilizing its natural advantages to enhance quality of life for its citizens for generations to come.
