Powassan is home to a full range of businesses to meet all of your needs, including numerous restaurants, a gas station, flower shops, building centres, automobile and boat repair shops… you name it Powassan has it.

We are known the world over for Giesler Boats, which have been built here in Powassan for over 70 years. The agricultural community is based in dairy, cattle and crop farming, and much of what is produced locally can be found at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning throughout the summer. Powassan is also proud to be home to Quality Hardwoods, whose owner Paul Brooks won the Entrepreneur of the Year award for in 2003. All these businesses play a large part in the community, providing export of goods and allowing for employment opportunities. Powassan is a well balanced blend of agriculture, retail, and service businesses to meet the needs of the community and surrounding area.

There are also ample opportunities for recreation year round. The local swimming pool offers lessons and classes throughout the summer; there is also a beach with boat launching facilities, as well as Youth Programs such as the Powassan Youth Soccer League. In the winter there is hockey and figure skating programs offered through Powassan’s two local arenas. We also offer events such as the annual Maple Syrup Festival, two Agricultural Fairs as well as many other events throughout the year.

Powassan is also fortunate to overlap with two Regional organizations, the Blue Sky Region and the Almaguin Highlands. Both organizations strive to increase the awareness of the Near North though tourism and economic development.

Recent studies completed include the Municipality of Powassan Community Strategic Plan (2007) and the Municipality of Powassan Housing Study (2008).

There are numerous opportunities for the business throughout this thriving community.
