Water Testing for Residents in Flood Areas

Posted by Lesley

Posted on 10:56, Monday, April 22

The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit advises that high water levels may affect private water systems. If you are on a private water system you should be aware that high water levels may contaminate your drinking water. For example, pooling of water around wells may cause well water contamination. If you live in a flooded area, it may be advisable to boil water to be used for drinking, washing uncooked fruit and vegetables, preparing baby formula, making coffee, juice and ice cubes, and brushing teeth. Water should be brought to a  boil and kept at a full rolling boil for one minute. This practice should continue this until you have your water tested. Water testing bottles are available for free at the Municipal Office main desk, and samples may be returned to the Health Unit, located  at 681 Commercial St  North Bay, ON P1B 4E7 between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Thursday only. Samples received on a Friday will not be tested due to regulations in the  length of time they are able to sit before being deemed unacceptable for accurate  testing. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
