Community Recreation Master Plan
Exploring what helps Powassan stay active, connected and involved.
Project status: Background review and project preparation
Work is underway on Powassan’s Community Recreation Master Plan. We are reviewing background information, taking a closer look at recreation spaces and services, and preparing opportunities for community participation. Community surveys and conversations will begin after the municipal election. Dates and details will be shared here as they are confirmed.
About the project
The Municipality of Powassan is developing a Community Recreation Master Plan to help guide future decisions about recreation facilities, parks, trails, programs and services.
The Plan will bring together community perspectives, background research and an assessment of existing recreation opportunities. It will help identify strengths, understand changing needs, and establish practical priorities that reflect local interests and available resources.
Recreation means different things to different people. It might be a walk on a favourite trail, a swim, a game, a community gathering, a creative activity or time spent with friends. The project will consider both organized activities and informal opportunities to be active, connect with others and enjoy the community.
What will the Plan explore?
The project will consider:
- Existing recreation facilities, parks, trails, programs and services.
- What people value about recreation and how they participate.
- Community needs, interests and barriers to participation.
- Accessibility, affordability and opportunities to feel welcome and included.
- Partnerships, volunteer involvement and approaches to delivering recreation.
- Priorities, potential actions and ways to support implementation over time.
The Plan will provide a framework for future decisions. It does not commit the Municipality to specific facilities, programs or investments. Recommendations will need to consider feasibility, municipal capacity, potential partnerships and available funding.
A community-wide perspective
The review will consider recreation opportunities across the Municipality, including municipal recreation spaces, parks, trails, gathering places, programs and services.
Understanding how these opportunities work together and how people experience them will help inform the Plan.

Your experiences will help inform the Plan
What does recreation mean to you? What do you enjoy about Powassan’s parks, trails, programs and community spaces? What helps you participate—and what sometimes gets in the way?
There will be opportunities to share these experiences as the project moves forward. Planned participation options include a community survey, conversations with community groups and stakeholders, and opportunities to review the emerging Plan.
You do not need to participate in organized activities or regularly use municipal facilities to have something valuable to contribute.
For now, consider:
What’s your kind of recreation—and what does it bring to your life?
Who can participate?
We welcome perspectives from people of different ages, interests, abilities and experiences—including children and youth, adults, older adults, families, volunteers, community organizations and people who do not currently participate in local recreation opportunities.
We also want to understand the experiences of those who face barriers to taking part.
Participation details, including available formats and ways to request assistance, will be shared when engagement opportunities are announced.
